35 years of CoMETA: from security for banks to new markets by joining FAAC Technologies

CoMETA Spa: a video that retraces the first 35 years of history of the company based in Barberino Tavarnelle, Florence.

Witness and narrator of an entrepreneurial story of continuous growth is founder Enzo Anselmi, who presents his company's successful journey at the moment of a fundamental step: CoMETA's entry into FAAC Technologies.

The choice of the acronym for Costruzioni Micro Elettroniche Tecnologicamente Avanzate (Technologically Advanced Microelectronic Constructions), as Anselmi explains, is not accidental: in 1986, the year the company was founded, there was the passage of Halley's Comet. Hence the idea of christening the new business with a good-luck name that also perfectly represented the company's identity and core business.

In six minutes of video, all set inside the company's headquarters in Tuscany, we discover the evolution of production and solutions over the decades, characterised by always giving reliable and quality answers to the concrete needs of the reference markets. In the 1980s, the starting point was the need of the banking system: CoMETA created a durable and functional lock for the different security concept of banks, which needed filtering and control systems at the entrance to open to the public. The products met with the approval of such a demanding clientele as the banks, and from there came the drive to focus on research to create solutions suitable for increasingly complex systems, such as metal detectors, biometric systems, facial recognition, right up to the recent temperature control and the mask worn before access.

A second important step recalled by Enzo Anselmi took place in the 1990s, with the proposal to customers of complete solutions such as automatic and self-operated booths and compasses: a challenging production innovation that led to the move to the current factory. The mid-1990s also saw the establishment of a service consortium to install and maintain CoMETA products throughout the country. In 2000, a further challenge was met with the establishment of CoMETA France in Paris, to address the important market of French public institutions that wanted to rely on the Italian quality that the Tuscan company guaranteed. The achievement of ISO 9001 quality certification also dates back to the same year.

Mr Anselmi's testimony does not leave out the evolution into a joint-stock company in 2009 and the opening of the Padua branch to be closer to the many credit institutions in the Veneto region. In 2016, another milestone was reached with the expansion of the factory from 4,000 to 14,000 square metres and the installation of a photovoltaic system on the roof to entirely cover the company's energy needs.

Along the way, as CoMETA's founder points out, the security and control needs of banks have also become common to other sectors, from the public sector to industry and the transport system. This was an opportunity that could not be missed, which could be realised by transforming or modifying its products to make them of interest to other markets. This is why, 35 years after its birth, CoMETA decided to become part of FAAC Technologies.

"By joining the FAAC Technologies Group, which represents excellence in the access automation sector," says Anselmi, "CoMETA's growth prospects are multiplied both in terms of product development and range expansion, and in terms of the possibility of entering new markets. An operation designed to guarantee even more important and faster growth than that achieved to date”.
